Centenaire: The Event Citroën had called for its 100 year anniversary. The initial location was ment to be in Paris. However, it dawned on the organizers that the magnitude of this event will be way too big for the tight urban area. So La Verte Vidame was picked, a small town nighbouring the test track. This area was used during World War I to develop and test fighter planes. So it was a very secretive and secluded site. After the war the military use was discontinued. So Citroen purchased the entire area to test their vehicles. To the day the test track is still in use by PSA. The site is one of the most secretive and well protected places in all of France. Camping for the participants was right outside of town, the event location was in the fields around the chateau. |
See "Centenaire: The Auction" slide show |
Centenaire: The Auction Citroën had a lot of their history in the unique collection at the "Conservotoire". This included the historic models, prototypes and design studies. Some of these vehicles were put up for sale in an auction at the Centenaire. Before the auction started, all vehicles and items were put out for the public to see. |

Centenaire: The Test Track at La
Verte Vidame The actual test track usually is absolutely off limits for the public. All the top-secret prototypes are tested here. For the first time in history visitors were allowed to see a part of the track. The Centeniaire Organizers had staked out a drive around the test track. Every registered participating vehicle was allowed one lap on the test track. |
