Back Back 2CV Restoration - Cars for sale
What we do
New genuine frame
New genuine frame
Due to several reasons the 2CVs frame rusts away in only a few years if not properly protected. (See buyer's guide/Reasons for rust)
Once the frame is rusted it will bend what puts a tension on the steering column. When you now turn the wheel, the steering column will break! This leaves the car unsafe to use.

So we start every restoration with a new genuine frame. The frame isn't just installed as it came from Citroën. It still misses some appropriate undercoat. This is why the first step to prepare the frame is to give it a good layer of rubber-based undercoat.

Citroën delivers the new frame with a protection layer only on the top. This surface will later be the floor. The vulnerable underside is just painted. That's why I apply some good quality undercoat to protect the frame from scratches and any kind of gravel hitting the underbody while driving.
The undercoat has yet another reason - it keeps the rust protection grease in place. The grease would be washed off from the painted surface. The oil dissolves the rubber surface and creates a sticky greasy film that stays and protects the underbody from rust.

Now the frame is ready to be installed. The suspension system and the axles are first, than the drive train. Finally the very rudimentary car stands on its own rubber feet awaiting the main part - the body.
